Giant Robot's Tree Show 2 is not to be missed. The Upper Haight Gallery (affiliated with the popular art magazine) asked a bunch of relatively unknown artists to create works on the tree theme and has pledged a portion of the proceeds to Friends of the Urban Forest.
We love shows like this because it's fascinating to see the variation in responses to the theme. Yes, everyone loves trees, but for some that love translates into cheeky graffitti; and for others, whimsical reverie.
Tree Show ends August 24th. The works are viewable and buyable online as well, but visiting them this way only doesn't give you a chance to experience the impressive delicacy of Beci Orpin's wood cut.

this is great! thanks for posting about this event.
but i have to disagree -- many of these artists are actually well known.
I loved the Tree Show! I have to say though, I was a wee bit disappointed that there wasn't more affordable (and by that I mean $100 or less) stuff. One of my favorite pieces of art is a Souther Salazar post-it note I got at GR for 30 bucks. There was so much at this show I wanted to take home!
An amazing show. Would have like to have seen more lower priced pieces....
Jacob Macgraw's piece is unbelievable and that Bigfoot painting is the best I have seen yet from him....his gallery work is great!
PCP's piece was very cool ,looking forward to that show....
