Affordable and Strong: Corrugated Materials

Cardboard boxes are corrugated for strength. So goes it for corrugated sheet metal. And plastic. On top of that, these materials are readily available, efficient, and economical, too. Some designs that put corrugated materials to work:

1 V.stand by J1studio is a small side table or stand made of corrugated plastic. Two inverted stands fit into one another.
2 This folding screen by Herman Miller has translucent corrugated plastic inserts. Would make a great lightweight space divider that permits light to pass through.
3 How could we leave out Frank Gehry's cardboard furniture, which he began experimenting with as early as 1969. Many cardboard furniture creations have evolved since. image: John B. Carnett / Popular Science

This is a timely post as I am looking to construct a (stylish) barrier around an indoor tree to protect it from my curious 10 month old. Corrugated plastic would be a perfect and cheap material!

I found this site that sells it in single sheets and many colors if anyone is interested. http://www.beacongraphics.com/supplies/coroplast.html

my husband created this geodesic dome as a playhouse for our daughter more than2 years ago out of leftover corrugated plastic from his job. at that time he sent pictures on to greg from daddytypes.com: http://daddytypes.com/2007/05/07/holy_buckminster_fuller_dad_makes_playdome_at_home.php

it's been an indoor dome until, unfortunately this summer, we rebuilt it in the backyard where age, wear, and mostly massive midwest storms took their toll on the structure. but we've gotten a lot of fun out of it thus far.
