McEwen Lighting Studio

2409mcewenlighting1.jpgUsing the lines, shapes, and materials of industrial objects as his inspiration, local designer Michael McEwen, based in Emeryville, produces some seriously stunning fixtures. We’d love to bask in the glow of any of these

The copper-colored mica disks used in this barrel-shaped fixture cast a flattering, ethereal light, while the "glimmer" sconce gives off a bright, clean glow.

We love the slightly retro, super-chic lines of these egg-shaped pendants. And the "gear" chandelier, a ring of corrugated copper lined with opal glass, is one of McEwen's signature pieces, also available in a satin nickel finish.

Here are a couple of McEwen's commissioned pieces... see more on the studio's site. MLS editions are available in San Francisco at the De Sousa Hughes showroom. If you've got the budget, and you're looking to support a local designer in this economy, these seem like a worthy splurge. (Calling all lotto winners!) And the rest of us can ogle the lovely photos for inspiration.

I love Michael's designs. He was my neighbor in Emeryville for a few years. Truly a wonderful person and excellent designer.

They are absolutely beautiful and Michael is very talented and a nice guy. You'd have to be a lotto winner to get one though.. the corrugated copper chandelier above is about $10,000.

I think these are also available through Dennis Miller in the New York Design Center. Crazy-beautiful stuff.

Now that Domino is gone, maybe AT could fill the void with more high-low posts (not just highs!).
