Janakos and Company

5-9-janakos.jpgMidway between trendy Burlingame Avenue and more down-to-earth, resident-oriented Broadway lies Janakos and Company. Although we'd been meaning to stop in for ages, the store quickly bumped to the top of our To Do list when two readers, Vincent and apolywog, urged us to visit.

If that's not a glowing recommendation, we're not sure what is.

Craig Janakos is a friendly, personable guy who's been in business in Burlingame for over 20 years. The shop is a casual, light, airy space full of an eclectic mix of vintage furniture, lighting, art, and pottery.

Janakos' business card is spot-on, declaring that he specializes in "arts and crafts, Spanish-revival, retro-modern, deco, and rancho."

When we visited, inventory included a Stickney bookcase, an old pinball machine, a large assortment of mid-century furniture, California landscapes, vintage metal toy trucks, a cool Deco wall sconce, and Laurel mushroom lamps.

Prices are less than in many places in the City, and make the store well worth the 20-minute drive south.

Open Tuesday thru Saturday, 11 am-6 pm, and by appointment.

More photos are on the store's website.

(Thanks, Vincent and apolywog!)
