Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: Our house is a 1948 bungalow. Last summer we started the back garden reno finishing up this year - well, who ever finishes the garden, it is a work in progress! We eat our dinners there and entertain as often as the weather permits - shawls provided for those windy cool evenings. It's a great place to cool off when the summer nights don't...
I love to create salads from the lettuce and herb pots adding edible flowers too. We also have a small over-winter veg spots for chards, kale, rhubarb, mixed greens and a lemon boy tomoto pot. Grow organics! The garden beds are being reworked to suit the sun. By the house off the driveway is the rose, poppy & casablanca lily garden. The back yard is dominated by a very large Katalpah tree which will bloom in July but also creates a mostly shady back yard, therefore the back garden and under the tree have shady perrenial plantings. Along the fence is a lovely perennial kind of Victorian country garden - ever evolving.
How did you create it?:
We began by widening the back entrance/stairway that is the entrance we use most often and added french doors. Unfortunatly we had to leave the supporting post in the middle of the stairs but we kind of ignore it. As the carpenter was about to close in the space under the stairs I had the brilliant idea, (reminicent of my childhood summer cottage times) to have a swing bed built under the stairs. The pillows are vintage Marimekko actually from our beach cottage and 'saved' for 30 years!! I call the space My Kasbah. The patio was meticulously installed with old country pavers in 3 colours and 3 sizes, in an organic shape.
I love the swing under the stairs, and your table base is gorgeous.

The table base was antique when I acquired it in the 70's in Winnipeg. Works well as our dining table in N. Oak Bay.
