Denny combines forms from the natural world with materials found in an urban domestic landscape. A rabbit sculpture is fashioned from puffs of polyurethane foam, with corrugated cardboard ears. A little bird cast in lead perches on the edge of a vintage rearview mirror. The narrow stumps of trees push their roots through a concrete shelf.
Rare Device will host a reception for Rachel Denny this Friday, May 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the gallery (1845 Market Street, San Francisco). Her animal sculptures will be on display until the beginning of June. In the meantime, have a look at her online portfolio.
(Interested readers, please note: Some of the pieces pictured here are already sold, or won't necessarily be shown at Rare Device. You'll just have to check out the show in person!)
