The only private residence to win top honors was the Final(ly) House, shown at top, designed by Rothschild Schwartz Architecture, Inc.

Cathedral of Christ the Light, designed by Skidore, Owings & Merrill LLP

Congregation Beth Shalom Synagogue, designed by Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects Inc.
You can see all the award winners, including those in Interior Architecture and Energy and Sustainability, at the AIA San Francisco website.

FYI-the second picture is of "Sava Pool" by
Mark Cavagnero Associates & Paulett Taggart Architects. It won a Citation award. Cathedral of Light looks, well, different- and can be seen on the AIA site, as well as from various places on Lake Merrit.

Hope they have a couple of goats on that roof to keep the grass trim.

I love the Final(ly) house -- I saw a profile of it on HGTV one night and fell in love. It just melts into the mountainside with the grassy roof and it's almost transparent when viewed from the sea. Amazing.
