It's a little late for this, but we just got around to a check-in with the last issue of Metropolis, and came across a review of what looks like a fascinating restrospective of works by Joshua Tree-based artist Andrea Zittel (Andrea Zittel: Critical Space at NYC's New Museum).
The prevailing theme of these works, which are culled from the last 15 years, overlaps with one of ours: space management.
Only Zittel has made an extreme sport of it, creating "living units" that are tiny, beautiful, and, above all else, SPARE. They include a fully-equipped home that unfolds from a steamer trunk, and an open, 60 square foot scaffold-like structure that encompasses all the basic functions of domesticity, from sleeping to socializing.
