Northwest #29: Brooke and Noah's International Inspiration

Location: Beaverton, OR
Type of Home: Townhome
What inspired you to use color? I’ve lived in rented apartments all of my adult life. And, if you’ve ever rented an apartment you’ll know what I mean when I say, "Enough with the white walls!" Day after day surrounded by a sea of white I craved life, color, movement and a sense of vitality in my home. My boyfriend and I are young, vibrant adults with a definite sense of style that we want our home to reflect...

...We developed color inspirations from our favorite past living experiences. Our home draws from the deep crystal blues of the Atlantic Coast; the misty tranquil grays and greens of the Adirondack Mountains; and the golden, firey hues of Southern California. It balances the desert tans and earthy browns of Arizona and the fresh clean greens of Ireland.

Color Tip: Rather than finding a color you can live with, search your environment for colors that make you feel alive live! Just like an inspiring song that makes you thrilled, excited, happy, sad, or morose--color can paint the mood in your home. Use vibrant oranges, reds, or yellows to create energy in your space. Seeking a calming retreat? Try using blues, grays, and greens.

Colors Used: Ralph Lauren Paints - Parched Teak and Adirondack Blue

great job on making the darker colors work well with each other. that's usually such a difficult task to accomplish. it's easy enough to layer whites and creams and yellows but with the darks, you've got to hit the combination just right or else it all looks funereal. well done! your color combos look luxurious.

I love the fun/bold pattern on the chair and lamp, it contrasts nicely with the dark clean lines of the desk. Nice use of space in the living room,it feels very open. Your photo collages are great. I've been wanting to try it, now I have an idea of how to start. Way to go!

Thanks for all the great comments! The striped curtains came from ebay, and the grey curtains I found at Target. The green chandelier Noah and I actually made ourselves, so it's great that you like it!

Nice work with the use of colors in the dining room. I also love what you've done with the computer area. Looks like a good place to work.

Kali especially likes the Halloween decorations and the cat. She says to tell you she misses you and loves you.

What a lovely home you two have created, taking simple things and producing flare. The ocean picture above the fireplace is a wonderful juxtaposition (and the kitty adds even more character). I love vases and the two shown are such rich colors and complimentary to the rooms' color schemes. What a job well done.

Your apartment has areas that convey different colors and moods. Each room has its own character. Yet, your rooms tie together well. Nice job!

Your apartment seems to show your interests and personality–from the eclectic photos in the dining room, to the framed sea creatures and seascape in the living room. Bookcases, black cat, browns tones and fire in the fireplace all invite curling up with a great book, cocoa and marshmallows on a cool autumn day. You get my vote!

Lovely! I can see you inherited my decorating skills. One suggestion: a picture of your redheaded cousins would be the perfect addition to your photo wall.
