Phone Vault.com will also do phone repairs. For $5 and the cost of shipping, you can send your phone to them to get an estimate on what it would cost to put it back in working order. If you decide to have them work on your phone, the total price for refurbishing averages $40-60 plus the cost of shipping.

It really couldn't hurt to invest in an "older" model phone. One that just plugs into the wall without having to plug into an electrical outlet.

Back in the 1983 Blackout in NYC, my cordless phone didn't work and my cell phone ran out of power. My neighbor had a 1970's touchtone phone that worked perfectly. So now I have a touchtone phone packed away...just in case.

I used to have one just like the turquoise one in the first image. I have no idea where it is anymore and I could kick myself! I loved that phone.

oh my goodness.. this is so funny. I was telling a friend of mine a bit ago about how as a kid I used to love going to Radio Shack and playing with the princess phones. I had to explain to him what exactly a princess phone was and how very very badly I wanted one as a kid. I also mentioned that as soon as they replaced the rotary dial with the fake push-button rotary, they lost their charm...

so, for my birthday, he actually bought me a full-on rotary princess phone in ivory with gold trim. It was a thing of beauty and one of the best presents I've ever gotten. I had it in the trunk of my car for about two days or so... and my car got broken into and they actually stole the phone!! They left all of my cds (it pays to listen to indie bands no one has ever heard of I guess), but they stole my freaking princess phone! Needless to say, I am crushed.

I got my old phone of Craigslist for $3. Make sure you try there before paying $80.
