Re:modern's lighting and rug selections are particularly impressive. We noted some beautiful, functional light sculptures, like the $165 Bendant Hanging Lamp, above. The rug category includes a great array of wool runners to warm up your hallway (a fixation of ours) and thick, cushy Potholder Rugs in juicy colors. As we browsed through the site it dawned on us that Re:Modern has managed to cover all the major home cateories with style, and without including a single outrageously-priced item, which is quite a feat in the premium-priced green goods marketplace. They are like a mini, more upscale Ikea for modern, green design. In spite of the claims (see first paragaph), not everything here is what we'd call sustainable. The organic motifs of Amenity bedding, for instance, are skin deep. These lovely sheets are made from high-quality cotton, which is a very environmentally expensive crop to produce. But you can always take heart that a small percentage of what you spend here on less-than-green sheets (or anything else) goes to One Percent For the Planet.
