Welcome to rascal, who still wants to know about the wall panels behind the storage bed, JinSF, who needs references for a good window person, Jessica, who has some choice things to say about the Hot or Not chair, and wren, who has a great vinegar tip.

Be careful, Dorianne -- Vancouver is on my list of places to visit someday!
Andree, an Aquarabbit is Dana, a regular here who's an artist: http://www.aquarabbit.net/
Six major sources of flakiness:
--Badly scheduled appointments with people who want to buy things on CL.
--Being blindsided by husband's schedule.
--Obsessing about planning correctly to the point of not planning at all.
--Forgetting what day it is until it's too late to make plans.
--Having a headache.
--Getting behind on work and hating everyone.
Alas, I was unable to bring you an Italian, as they had all gone to France, leaving Florence to be over-run by American tourists. There was one small and dewy waiter who could have been stuffed in an overhead bin, but that was about it.
Other than that, the trip was fun, though I have now seen enough baroque architecture that my head my explode.
Can anyone recommend a reliable window person in SF? I've just moved into a smaller place and my couch won't fit through the door. I need to have my den window removed (& put back in) to get the couch in.
FYI - It's is less than a year old and I'm still paying for it so I can't just chuck/sell it - besides, I really like it.
Thanx!
Any interest in a gathering for drinks/dinner either before or after the opening for Aquarabbit's show on Friday, June 2? It's 7 to 10 pm down on 16th between Valencia and Guerrera, so I'm thinking it should be possible to descend in force on a nice Mexican restaurant.
I am absolutely free of my six major usual sources of flakiness -- interested parties email me at drwende at yahoo dot com and we will make real plans.
What's an "Aquarabbit"?
What are the six major usual sources of flakiness?
How was your trip?
Did you bring me an Italian?
Ah...I would love to jet down from BC to SF in my private plane and dine with you, wende...*sigh*
Thanks to everyone who gave advice for the pine table refinishing. I think it will be awhile till I get to it, sadly. I bought second hand living room furniture a month ago, and I need to get that re-covered this summer, before the pink flowered old lady upholstery smothers me.
An AT-SF get-together sounds like a wonderful idea, too bad I have family visiting this weekend!
And I wish aquarabbit well in her show - very nice paintings!
what a lovely idea wende...! I'd love to meet for dinner or drinks before the show. Happy hour, anyone?
aquarabbit - you've got ANOTHER show!? You go girl!! This is the start of an upward motion for you. I'm super happy for you and wish I could be there to meet for dinner and see the opening. I may go out there around Labor Day (would love to go to the Sausalito Arts Festival again) so maybe we can all meet up.
If the Italians were in France, where were the French? French is fine too.
I have a few of those flakes, mine are primarily poverty, pain, and depression. I also have a hideous chest cold. Which could mean sparking additional interest in Dana's items, "Hey, is that disgusting gelatinous glob supposed to be there? Maybe it signifies the reality beyond magical..."
No, it's just something I coughed up.
I've been swilling night time cough and cold elixer directly from the container and stumbling back to bed for about a week now. While there are signs of improvement, I'm confident that the majority of people do not want to hang around someone hacking and coughing and moaning and sniffling and trying to perfect the nasal tampon. It's just not an attractive look for an art show. Or dinner. Or drinks.
Did you take pictures? What did you see? What was different than you thought it'd be? Would you go back?
Ah, wende...I'll meet you there! I'm about 4 hours north east of Vancouver...3.5 if there are no RCMP on the highways!
P.S. - just to put my last post back on-topic....actually, the last time I got caught by the RCMP on those highways was on a return trip from...Ikea!

how was milan? what did you do? see? buy? eat?
details PLEASEEEEEEEE
Hi everyone - I'm finally settled in SF with internet in my apartment, yay! :)
Yay, Victoria!
Okay, luigi, since you asked... Milan provided the one truly magical moment of the trip. We didn't spend as much time there as I'd thought we were (all the long train trips left me confused about what day was what), but here's what we did.
--Saturday #1: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, aka "the world's most beautiful shopping mall." Wonderful, wonderful dinner at a restaurant toward La Scala side.
--Sunday: Mass at the Duomo. No wonder Americans are so ready to believe that the Catholic Church must be Up to Something. You go abroad, and there's all this incense and art and handwaving in Latin (portions of the mass were definitely in Latin, rather than Italian), and it's so, so foreign. I loved every minute of it.
Then we wandered around to see what all was open, basically the chi-chi shops beyond the Galleria, had pizza that seemed mediocre at the time but glowed in comparison to Viennese pizza (NEVER order pizza in Vienna - just don't!), and spent most of the afternoon at the Castello, which proved to be an excellent castle indeed -- entertaining furniture collection once we found it.
La Scala, alas, had nothing on while we were there. We wandered all over (but Sunday, you can only window shop) and finally took our train from the impressive but much-under-construction central station.
When we came back a week later to catch our plane, we positively had to have dinner at the same restaurant in the Galleria (Il Salotto -- it was even better), partly to escape the horrible rooms at a different hotel.
So we emerged from the Galleria, exhausted and well-fed, at sunset, and there across the piazza, in giant glowing letters, is printed "Everything is going to be all right."
"Am I hallucinating?" I asked the husband. No, it was there. So we took the slogan to heart, strolled around the piazza, and then strolled up the long street toward where the sun was setting behind the castello. It was the best moment of the trip.
