I'm swapping apts. with someone at the end of the month. I've never done a swap so does anywhere here have good tips for making things run smoothly? Any DOs and DON'Ts to keep in mind?

i was (for the first time in my life) granted painting powers but my landlord wants to be able to easily cover anything i leave behind - does anyone happen to know if metallic paint is easy to paint over?

Why does it seem like its so easy for NYers to paint/redo their rented apartments but here in CA its like white walls and beige/brown carpeting only and "landlords" are only open to paint colors like "egg shell" or "navajo white". UGG. Especially since renters are plunking down like mortgage style rents!
