Does anyone have any good tips on painting lumpy, bumpy walls?
Taping is basically no help due to lumpiness, so any tips appreciated!

Jennifer--
I just finished painting my den, including the popcorn ceiling - and heavily textured walls have the same issues. Just go to your local paint store and tell the guy what you want to do - He'll hand you a nice nappy roller and suggest the other tools you'll need to do a good job.
I highly recommend G&R Paint on Sutter between Polk and Van Ness - They have everything you could possibly need and several brands of paints, including Benjamin Moore and the guys there are extremely helpful.

Im having a hard time finding some fiberglass eames armchairs for my dining room table. We need all white and ebay has many colors but its hard to see what the difference between off-white and white are. How can I find my chairs. I really dont like the new plastic models being made. I also would rather go authentic than modernica.

sokanomx,
have your tried first dibs? i've haggled alot with sellers there and it can work. you can search by city so you could find some local shops and visit them in person.
also, try posting an ISO in the AT classifieds section...
i feel your pain though, i've been in search of some anziano chairs for our dining in ANY color and have had no luck and a few near misses in the last 6 month. :( eames should be a little easier though...
cheers!

Since there isn't an Open Thread on the NY page I'll ask here and hope some NYers can answer -
I want to install a ventless ribbon fireplace in a client's apt. But I've heard that NY doesn't permit these types of fireplaces. I'm not sure that's true. Does anyone have information on this? Or know where I can get it?

i was looking for an fiberglass chair and a pair of saarinen executive chairs a few years ago and put up 'wanted' ads on craigslist. after a few months of scouring ebay & craigslist, the sellers e-mailed me within a week. i was surprised that it took less time that way. one guy in seattle actually had a whole warehouse of vintage furniture that he was selling! be specific about what you are looking for (including quantity) and include pictures or links in your ad.
also, keep a lookout for college/corporate surplus sales. the stackable eames chair was used on many college campuses and are often for sale in larger quantities.
good luck!

Thanks bepsf. I actually do go to G&R (and they are great!) but I forgot to ask when I went in last. I think I'll have to make a quick 2nd trip.

i'm going to try to treat my palm tree for an insect infestation which is apparently causing a sooty mold problem due to the abundance of liquid bug poop. wish me luck...

Jennifer -
Good luck on the painting - I love G&R too and am so glad that they now have Saturday hours.
Would be really nice if the SF AT Bloggers did a post on that store...
Meanwhile, I'm doing more work on the den this weekend: the sofa I ordered from Macy's arrived yesterday and the fabric looks more dark Pink than Red but with the green walls, it still looks good - I just need to adjust my plans for the drapes, etc.
