I'm looking for large-ish black and white prints of modernist SF buildings for my home.
I'm a fan of the iconic posters of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building but the only architectural photos I can find of local buildings are either of the Golden Gate Bridge or ones burnt-up after the 1906 earthquake and fire.
The Ross Building and the PacBell building are gorgeous- there must be something out there.
try the digital photo archive at the SF History Ctr in the SF Public Library. They have 250,000 photos-- i'm sure you'll be able to find something there.
(you can see many of the photos they have -- all of which can be purchased -- on line. others haven't been digitized yet, but you can see them in person. call and talk to a librarian if you have trouble navigating the site)
the art is a piece of canvas stretched over a wood frame. i want to hang it on a white wall (that i can't paint--I rent). any ideas for how to make/find a frame or backing of some sort that would fit this type of artwork? i was thinking of finding some branches with a 1-2 inch diameter and somehow rigging them around it, but i am not sure where to find branches like this.
any ideas would be welcome!
thanks!

help SF! I am deeply in love with this bookcase/room divider from one of the house tours. Any ideas where I can get one like it? or how hard it would be to find a similar one and have it painted?
I'm looking for a nicer version of this ikea desk. My one room remedy room is going to be my bedroom, and being a student, I need private study space. But I want to be able to be able to put away the school stuff so my bedroom is more relaxing to sleep in. I love the look of the ikea desk, but I just can't bring myself to replace my current cheap, MDF piece with another one of similar quality just for the sake of aesthetics. I'd rather wait a while and save for something nice. But finding a nicer (real wood) white secretary desk that doesn't look like a bulky cabinet seems impossible. Any suggestions? (I'm in Seattle, BTW, so SF local sources are out)
Thanks!

Look at Ikea they may have pieces that you can put together and then paint.
also, there is that great place in Noe Valley/Dolores Park, don't remember who, but they make unfinished furniture to your specs.
Does someone know the place I'm talking about? I know it was listed on At some time ago.
