Please help! I have very nice VG Fir doors and want to replace the trim around them. I love the idea of VG fir trim with white walls...but I am not a "white walls" kind of person. Do you think it would look weird to have white trim around my VG fir doors?

I hope someone else answers Stefanie's question...
We're moving at the end of September, all the way to Phoenix. I have partly filled out Frequent Consumer Cards for Fog City News, Teavana, and Kinokuniya Stationery, should anyone want to be two or three stamps closer to freebies at those stores.

No Wende! Say it isn't so! Why Phoenix? Won't you miss the scenic tenderloin so horribly??

Husband has been commuting to Phoenix for over a year -- I see him 2.5 days a week -- and my job prospects in the Bay Area remain as lousy as ever. It was time to rethink our lifestyle.
Phoenix has hilarious condo rental bargains due to overbuilding in the past couple years, plus if I can get a real job, we'll be able to save a lot more $$. And Phoenix has the beginnings of a design scene.
Yeah, it's suburban sprawl to infinity, but if we can find a place in Midtown, it's not totally impossible to have a quasi-urban lifestyle.

Wende, good luck with your move. I love SF (visiting, have never lived there) but my niece is in Phoenix and is very happy there. More time with your husband and low rent are big bonuses. How are Marva and Brian taking the news? Or are they unconcerned as they can likely take their remodeled house with them.

Phoenix? Wow. That is a far cry from SF.
How hot does it get there?
What kind of work would you get?

Well, in theory I'm a sort of part-time academic, but I've done marketing and corporate communication in the biz world. What I'm probably going to do after unpacking and while sending out resumes is sign up to temp -- I run an office very efficiently, and it's a way to be out and meeting people, not to mention floating the cash for a work wardrobe appropriate to 120-degree heat.
And there are so many estate sales! I actually hit PowerSeller status on eBay when I was active, so I'm a thinkin' that there are opportunities...

Best of luck to you Wende! I don't envy that heat.
I've lived in more places than I care to admit across the country and there is always something interesting and unique to each place.
And somehow I imagine that you DO run an office very efficiently...

But nobody's asked the important question yet: Wende, can I have your apartment? Puh-leez?!

Come to think of it, if there's anyone whose actually looking for an apartment and is willing to tolerate Tenderloininess for space and good cornices, click my link and use the email. We just got a very nice nextdoor neighbor, so everyone would be happy to move in someone sane and responsible.

I just wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed the "San Francisco-ness" of this week's posting..in particular, The Color Chips collection of SF exterior details, the house tour, the bay window solutions, and the phone niche ideas. Even the "Is it Live or is it Photoshop?" question.
I like seeing new and different products and accessories featured, but I most enjoy seeing things unique to SF, and for this Ohioan, that tends to be the architecture...how it is lived with and adapted to modern lives.
Great Job AT:SF!
