Okay... Someone needs to mention that ATLA Editor Gregory, his girlfriend Emily, and their fab "Silverlake Sanctuary" finalist entry from this year's Smallest Coolest contest http://tinyurl.com/goyoe are featured in the new issue of Readymade. The new issue that just hit the stands. Yup, someone should mention that.

I'm heading to Portland this weekend and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me where do do a little shopping? I won't have too much time so if there is a specific neighborhood where there are a few cute home stores I'd love to hear about them.
Nothing new has been announced that I've seen, presumably because of the kitchen and baby excitement.

Jessica,
I'm sure the PDX residents can tell you more, but I would suggest the Pearl District as a first stop. I was in Portland a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed wandering around the various design shops. It's a little yuppy though.

Hey Jessica, for a short visit, the Pearl District is probably your best bet. Etslee is right, it's more yuppy than Portland really is, but there are some great dives to even things out - I recommend visiting the largest DWR showroom, followed by cheap diner-style lunch at Byways Cafe then over to HIVE modern. If you have a little more time, you can take the streetcar from the Pearl to NW 23rd area, which is more laid back, bohemian kinda shopping area. Less home stores though, more fashion and boutique type joints. Anyway, here's a link for the Pearl - http://shopthepearl.com/ and there's tons of other references if you google Pearl District. Hope you find some cool stuff!

The "Lisa's Colorful Mission Abobe" house tour comment thread is closed, but I wanted to say that I loved the color and art.

Be sure to check out Powells while in Portland (it is close to the Pearl district). Amazine (and huge) bookstore with a mix of used and new books. Practically an entire floor filled with design/home/garden books. I could (and have) spent hours there.

Hi guys, I am having trouble finding a website and I was wondering if you could help me. As I recall I was looking for bath hardware (knobs, etc) and this website had quite a modern, clean selection. I found some of their stuff at Chiasso.com but it didn't have nearly the selection. Can anyone help me? I know it's a little bit silly but I'd really appreciate any tips, this is driving me bonkers.

Hi everyone,
I got an email from Live Modern yesterday. They're offering free passes to the West Coast Green Residential Building Conference and Expo that's going on in SF this weekend. It seems like a really cool event, if you're interested in green design, that is. Since I'm in Boston, I figured you guys could use it more than me. Here's the email I got:
Thanks to the efforts of LiveModern, Dwell magazine and
forward-thinking architects, many modernists now equate
modern design with green building. It's time to explore.
LiveModern has arranged for free passes to the trade show
portion of the West Coast Green Residential Building
Conference and Expo which starts today in San Francisco.
If you are in the Bay Area this weekend and would like to
attend the trade show, please see details at:
This free pass offer is an $85 value, and there is no limit
to the number of free passes LiveModern can provide. The
free pass allows you access to the trade show through
Saturday. Significant discounts are also available for
conference passes through this offer.
BTW, Michelle Kaufmann will speak about Prefab Green at West
Coast Green at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 30, as part
of the conference.
The West Coast Green conference and expo represents the
largest milestone yet in the residential green building
movement. It provides access to comprehensive state-of-
the-art resources and features 250 exhibitors and 100
experts presenting their latest developments, insights, and
inspiration on the expanding frontiers of the field.

Any thoughts about the new Westfield SF? I just visited yesterday and was generally pleased with the overall renovation. The rotunda is magnificent and I liked the integration with the older section connecting to Nordstroms. Bloomingdales is bright and well planned. I just wish there was a home design store and less clothing stores. I counted 4 different retail versions of Abercrombie and Fitch!
I loved the cool wood pendant lamps at the food fair.

do you know if iamstillalive has a bricks and mortar shop? i clicked around the site for them you posted, but it seems like they're an all-online operation. and seeing as i live in Brooklyn, it would be really nice to go pay them a visit, because their stuff is really cool! also, if i ever wanted to buy from them, 'twould be a bit silly to have to order online from a shop in my same zipcode...
