water cooler, gather 'round Welcome to amy, who thinks Victoria E will fall in love with sf after just one summer here, and alison, whose spring cleaning has included her magazines and is looking for someone who wants them.
It's Wednesday and I have a question - more specifically, I have a dumb question. One that I think could be answered here.
Dig: I've never owned a piece of real estate; and aside from a fabulous space back in New Orleans, I haven't had a fixed address in eight-odd years. Since moving to SF, however, I've developed a desire for relative permanence.
That's the long way 'round the barn, I know, but I wanted to know how square footage is calculated. I'm looking at moving into my second (!) apartment and I'm trying to determine if it'll have the space needed for the layout I had in mind.

In case anyone is curious, today is my last day in SF; I've been here for the past 3 days, looking at apartments. I believe I've found the perfect place for myself, my boyfriend, and our cat in an outer Richmond studio +; I'll know tomorrow (Monday) if it will be officially ours :D

Outer Richmond? Very nice! Lots of Asian restaurants and some cute stuff within walking distance.
Nic, the square footage should be basically wall-to-wall within the livable space of the apartment. This includes closets, kitchens, and bathrooms, but not balconies, common hallways, or unfinished crawl space.
At small-apartment size, the layout makes such a huge difference that the square footage number is only a starting point, though.

Hi everyone and thank you so much for your support :) I got back to CT today and got a call from Karl (my hopefully new landlord) while I was running around with errands. He said that he wanted to talk with me about a few things, so I need to call him back ASAP
