What's the standard rate for tipping for a furniture delivery in the Bay Area? They will have to bring a sofa and loveseat up one flight of stairs with an only slightly tricky turn at the top.
Spaceagemouse, are you looking for upholstery weight? curtain weight? Assuming you're budget minded (who isn't?) I can think of two remnant shops, one on Mission around 18th, and one on 3rd off of Harrison. I'd double check the phone book under fabric for the names and exact addresses. I've found amazing things at both.
Amy, it never ocurred to me to tip a delivery person from a place like Crate & Barrel or Room & Board. I'm feeling pretty embarassed now. But now that I think about it, it would be absurd to tip on a percentage of the purchase. I'd say $10 to $20 each, depending on whether you've made them climb some of those Noe Valley stairs!

Spaceagemouse - There's also several fabric stores on Clement right around 2nd Ave. Plus there's always Britex, which has some spendy stuff, but if you don't need much it could be worth it.
Amy - Sadly this didn't occur to me until about 30 minutes after I had my couch delivered. I still feel embarrassed about it!! And from people I've talked since king924 is right about the standard range.
I posted this question a while ago but didn't receive any responses, can anyone help:
My partner and I share a queens sized bed but have seperate twin duvets. Because of this I am having trouble finding nice bed linen for our bed. Does anywhere have a good source for twin duvet covers that are good quality (I really love super soft fabrics so a high thread count is a must) but not super expensive? Because we live in Australia it would need to be available online.
p.s. also we have two black cats so any bed linen cannot be white or a really light colour because the fur would show up instantly!
Thanks!

Jodie, www.garnethill.com has great twin duvets. They call them "comforter covers."

Our light fixture updating continues. Does anyone know if it's possible to clean up a pitted bathroom fixture without re-chroming? Or should we buy a new chrome fitting for this overhead light instead? The pitting isn't too bad: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98704941@N00/2324963381

I went by Ross today before picking up groceries. I found a pair of pillowcases that were not priced, and ended getting them for $5.99. I don't know what the regular Ross price is supposed to be, and I did NOT see any other products in my local Ross.
JUST the pillowcases, they were not part of a set. They had their own package with the Jonathan Adler "Happy Home" label and the pattern Kensington on the package sku.

Ross is splendidly random, which is why it's worth checking occasionally. I'd vote for Market St. and Mercado Santa Clara as the two best Ross stores in the Bay Area, but the whole point of the chain is that YMMV.
I'm looking for an iron bed in San Francisco. I'd like something well made and beautiful and I'm OK with a reproduction or an antique. Any idea where to go? My budget is under $2000 and I would like to stay local so I can see it in person and hopefully cut down on shipping costs. That said, any opinions on beds from Charles P. Rogers? I like this one.

Does anyone know where to get cool, patterned fabric in SF? Not that I'm going to upholster any chairs anytime soon, but you never know...

But it might be worthwhile for folks to check their Ross. This is what I got:
