I am a furniture designer/inventor, and have been working on a "space creating" bed system for small space living.
The Double Space Bed System is a free standing piece of furniture that takes advantage of vertical space by storing the bed high overhead when not in use, while using the space below for other furniture. It can be placed anywhere - even in front of windows (as the 4-post/column design, has open sides), you can use your favorite style of mattress (up to 250 lbs.), it has non-electric movement system that is very easy to operate, and is built with green components that will last a lifetime (or two) in the USA.
