Close-Up!: John's Strauss Glass Milk Bottles

4-25-close up.jpgSo many contest entries, so much inspiration. Just one of the many things we've loved comes from Northwest #11: John's Mission Melange.

John cited the collection of Strauss glass milk bottles (red tops, third shelf) used as pantry containers as one of his favorite elements in his small, cool home. We really like them, too. Although they work best for grains and beans, they'd also work for holding any bits and bobs small enough to fit through the small necks -- paper clips, safety pins, coins.

It's such a smart idea. As soon as I saw it I went and checked how heavy an empty bottle of milk is. It seems pretty heavy to have so many of them on a shelf, filled with dried beans. I'm sure my shelf (a typical one in an upper cabinet) would give in to all that weight.
I noticed that John's put his on a much stronger looking shelf, which is what those milk bottles demand.
