Here'a 3M's bizarro little demo
3M promises "damage-free decorating and organizing" with these products. It almost sounds too good to be true. Is it? Has anyone out there tried them?
Available here.
I bought and used some of the "mini hooks" in my house. One has been holding a calendar on a kitchen cabinet for over a year. Another fell down under the weight of a bulletin board (I must have missed the 1/2 pound weight allowance on the package), but left no trace of having been there.
this stuff is GREAT! i use it all the time for small pieces of art & securing large pieces in place.
I'd have to agree with mg. I've been using these ever since I started college (going on my 4th year). Mostly every thing that sticks to a wall in my apartment (mirror on closet, calendar board, pendant lamps on the ceiling, art, bookbags and bags, cords from my speakers and TV) is held up by the 3M strips. A hook even holds up the rack for my pot lids inside a cabinet in my kitchen! I can go on and on about its uses!
I LOVE this stuff. Have used it since it first came out and have them everywhere in my apartment. I also use them at work for tradeshows. Definitely watch the weight allowances - that's key to making sure it stays up and doesn't cause damage
they are great and amazing and wonderful. I used them in my dorm for two years and now in two different apartments. they've always held up for me (though I always am careful and put on extra if I'm worried about weight) and come off clean. I've used them for all sorts of hooks, pictures, even helping to keep a set of shelves from leaning away from the wall.
They are very nearly magical. Everything on the walls in my apartment (posters, hats, dustpan, bathrobe ... everything except a painting, and even that was on two large Command hooks until I got the proper stuff) hangs from them! I had a couple of posters fall off the wall after a little over two years, but that's been the only issue.
I have these in my office b/c I keep important papers close at hand hanging on binder clips. The other day, I had the occassion to have to test their removal. Of four hooks, I went two for two. I didn't pull down long enough to release the hook cleanly. It's not the fault of the hook, only the user. My advice is if you think it's not coming off, keep pulling down!!
i thought the demo was pretty funny. it looks like some college kid's midterm project.
i too will vouch for it as well. i have used it during staging or at my warehouse for hanging stuff up (as long as i follow the weight limitation), it has worked great and has not left anything trace on the wall. it's magical. ;)
cheers,
cindy
The command adhesives really are fantastic. But when you're removing them you have to make sure you pull on the adhesive tag as close to parallel to the surface it's stuck to as possible. I used these to hang christmas lights on the ceiling at an old apartment and ended up taking out small little chunks of paint by pulling the tabs not quite parallel enough
