Display Artwork with Clipboards

6-4-08-clipboards.jpg

We're mildly obsessed with clipboards, in part because they make us feel so industrious and important when we walk around with one. But Abbey over at Aesthetic Outburst has a better use for them: artwork display.

Pros: Easily switch artwork in and out; display an awesome collection of vintage clipboards; easily change the arrangement of the pictures; way cheaper than custom framing.

Cons: No protection for delicate pieces; the top of the artwork can get cut off by the big snapping clip; okay, so not everyone loves clipboards.

Verdict: We love it! We'd use it for particularly gorgeous doodles, postcards and other 2D ephemera. What's your take?

We do this at our house, although we took it one step further and picked up cheap $2 picture frames from (the evil) Walmart... popped the glass out, and put the glass over the print and the put the clip down. It keeps the artwork safe and it has a great texture with the shiny glass and the pressboard of the clipboard underneath.

i like the idea, sarahrae, but you're right - w-mart is evil!

nonetheless i like the mix/match aspect of the display shown. i've always tried to match up my clipboards and make the display symmetrical. this will free me up considerably!

It's a perfect solution for me! I have one small drawing with no real home, and I have one vintage clipboard stored with my office supplies.

This is funny... I was just organizing my office supplies and I found several clipboards and wondered what to do with them!

Good Idea!

Love it. I just need to find huge ones to display my toddlers expansive painting portfolio. Apparently finger-painting paper doesn't fit into standard frames...

btw sarahrae: you can buy pre-cut glass for less than $2 at a home improvement store.

The whimsical over-sized pencil really makes this work.

We use clipboards too. We got 'em at Staples and we use them to display a rotating collection of photos. Ours. Friends. And stuff we come across and enjoy.
