We were very inspired by this post, specifically the hanging clipboards on Lotta Jansdotter's too-cool brick studio walls. While we have exposed brick in our place, too, in the form of a massive fireplace, we don't have the flat, vertical surface area that she does.
In fact, surface area is at a premium in our space, period. What we do have, however, is a low window next to our desk, with plenty of space on the sill. So we bought the clipboards (a three-pack for $3 -- individual clipboards were $6 each), and used them to clip all currently active papers (anything that is not active is filed), and arranged them in the window.
We loved it until we walked outside and realized that the back of the clipboards weren't nearly as attractive as the front.
So here's the question...what do you think should go on the back?

If you're in the SF Bay Area, go to the big scrapbooking store on 4th in Berkeley (over by the Crate & Barrel outlet) -- you can get the same sorts of patterns you see in hip, trendy wallpaper for a buck a sheet or so. Basic Grey and KI Memories in particular do "mod" patterns.
Attach the paper with double-sided scrapbooking tape, and you'll be able to switch it out when it fades or goes out of style.

What I would do is look for a long poster/image. Then I would cut sections for each board so when they line up you could see the whole picture. Something like a panoramic view only I would choose something natural over a cityscape but that's just me.

I would leave the clip board backs alone--after removing the price tag--and purchase a set of indoor shutters. Stain them whatever wood color goes best with your room or paint them if you must. Cut them down to whatever size feels right to hide the clip boards and look good in window. That way you have a constant view from the street and still have some light where the clip boards are not blocking it.

I think it would be fine if you just removed the price tags, but if you want to jazz it up, it would be simple enough to add basically any paper to the back.
