As much as we hate to admit it, we are liable to get really frustrated with an organizing project when containers and the like cost such a pretty penny — especially in the volume we'd need for more daunting collections, like magazines.

Luckily, with a little patience and effort we can build solutions ourselves, out of materials we'd otherwise throw away (by which we of course mean recycle).
To make these cereal box magazine holders, see RePlayGround's how-to for step-by-step instructions, including the brilliant no-brainer of using smaller boxes for smaller magazines.
Brilliant!

I remember this idea in a magazine when I was a little kid. To this day my mom still has some of these holding magazines.
I even glued wallpaper samples and construction paper to them to make them coordinated when I was younger.
Good times.

My mom has a whole row of these in her closet, covered with left-over hideous wallpaper from a house we moved out of when I was seven. Still, it's a good idea.

Almost makes me want to buy some Fruit Loops or Lucky Charms, but them I'd have to eat them.

I LOVE this idea! I work for a blog that requires me to buy tons and tons of magazines (and keep them on file) so this will really spice up my office bookcases.
Thanks!

i made these and wrapped them in cool gift wrap from Ikea.
just do the size test before doing the work, to make sure your magazines fit. some cereal boxes are smaller.

The banker's boxes I bought at Staples are cheaper than a box of cereal, and heavier cardboard. I mean, if you haven't saved the boxes already, I don't know how quickly you go through cereal, whether you have kids might make a diff. If you need boxes of uniform size... might actually take more time and eating of cereal, unless you want to buy so much ahead, and want to waste cereal or have other containers.
LAST TIME I saw this tip here, there was also a link to at least one instructables.

Trouble is we never eat this junk.

as a teenager i spent hours holed up in my bedroom making collages from magazine clippings and mod-podging them to the cereal box-magazine holders i had made.
kind of makes me miss that girl.
