Stocking the Medicine Cabinet

We have a sad, sad, tiny, minimal amount of storage space in our little bathroom. Our medicine cabinet is more of a make-up, toothpaste, deodorant cabinet and our emergency goods get stashed in the bedroom closet in a completely chaotic unusable mess.

We've decided that while we're busy stocking our Earthquake Preparedness Kit (belated New Year's resolution of 2000), we should probably take a look at our home quick-kit.

Help us get it together...what indispensables do you keep in yours?

The bathroom is actually a pretty bad place to keep your medicine, since the humidity and heat can effect pills. The kitchen is not much better, for the same reasons.

I have two clear plastic shoe boxes, one labeled "OUCH" and one labeled "ACHOO", with appropriate contents, in a closet close to the bathroom. The first aid and cold supplies do NOT need to be in the bathroom all the time, really they don't.
A dark cool , clean , linen closet is much better and just as handy .
Grab box , attend to whatever ails you, put back into closet and bathroom stays uncluttered and first aid supplies remain fresh.
Bathroom storage is for items used every day.

Try one of those plastic organizers with 3 letter/legal sized drawers and stash some small stuff on each shelf - perfect for most bathroom items. If you have more than that, get a very small ELFA drawer unit and put narrow drawers in it, with liners where needed.

I had this dilemma last year, one tiny, shallow medicine cabinet in the master bath. I guess in 1939 there was no need for the electric toothbrush/hairdryer/shaver, assorted jumbo Costco hair care products or moisturizers for no fewer than five parts of the body.

We stole three feet from an adjacent bedroom closet to add a utility closet in the rebuilt bath.
