apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Store 'n Slide Wall Organizer

The fact that our apartment has zero closets may come off as modern and vaguely Scandinavian in the bedroom, say, but it's not as easy to make the contents of a utility closet look cool.

Our broom, mop and related paraphernalia would lean — and subsequently fall to the floor in an aggravating tangle — on a new wall every week until we found the Store 'n Slide. The footprint of its mounting hardware is limited to the length of the rack itself, rather than the length of the track, meaning it can slide past the edge of the wall, as we've done below.

We've found that it breaks the usual rule that if you can't see it, you won't use it. Since retrieval and storage of our cleaning tools are so much easier, we're actually motivated to sweep and mop more. Oh joy.

$20 at Container Store.

Very clever!

Warning. Don't put a damp mop up *behind* your fridge. I did that once and had to call the fire department. Very embarassing.

Very cool, but make sure your mop is dry before you slide it back in!

This is a great idea. I have a beach home that's a weekly rental. Last year I put all the cleaning things in a closet only to find them next to the fridge at the end of the season. I guess that's a favorite spot. So I might as well make it a little more organized. Sometimes it's those little things that make a huge difference.

very cool idea, i have a utility closet and i still think this would make it so much easier to store them... i hate having to move brooms and mops and things to fit the vacuum in.

Anyone tried it? Is the hardware easy to remove when you move out?

What if the handles of all the stuff (and the dust pan) hanging from it were painted one cool color?

(I have a funky sweeping brush with a leopard-print handle that I've been known to leave out because it's so tongue-in-cheek chic!)
