Ultra Slim Black Flocked Hangers at Bed Bath & Beyond

8-7-hangers.jpgLast night we were at a party where two designers were raving about... hangers. And we got excited when we heard about them. Organizational nerds unite! These are hangers that completely changed the closet of the most organized person (with the most gorgeous closet) we know...

Bed Bath & Beyond describes them like this: The ultra slim shape of these hangers provides three times the amount of closet space. Best of all, the velvety surface prevents clothing from slipping. Each hanger features indents for slips and similar items.

A set of 10 is $9.99 here and a set of 50 is $39.99 here.

Also available in camel and light blue, and as pants hangers.

(So, put those BB&B coupons from Jet Blue to good use!)

These are huggable hanger knock-offs. I love my Jo Mangano huggable hangers, they completely transformed my closet.

I recently replaced all my crummy old plastic hangers with these type. They do make more room and my more lightweight shirts don't slip off and end up on the floor anymore. I bought mine at ROSS, and they were much cheaper.

I got some of these, but the black flocking started coming off on my clothes fairly quickly. I like the idea but don't like the execution.

I have them in a super cute green color and they're great. You'll wonder why you ever used those huge wood hangers.

they have about five colors at BB&B. i have blue and cerise pink. love them. but my mom was deeply po'd that i bought knockoffs instead of her beloved Joy Mangano's. So she got me a full set of Joy Mangano's in hot pink. I should never need to by another hanger.

As far as I can tell Ms. Mangano's "Huggable Hangers" (to be avoided for that god awful name, if nothing else!) only come with gold-toned metal hanger hooks (tacky, IMO) and the BB&B ones come with chrome. I suppose if you can live with the gold metal there's no substantive difference except the royalties going to Joy. These hangers look great and they work great, not only by unifying the jumble of different hooks and hanger widths, but also by hanging everything at the same level. I haven't had any issues with BB&B's shedding flocking, I just wish they weren't made in China and shipped halfway around the world.

"You'll wonder why you ever used those huge wood hangers."

Because these are made from petroleum, they tend to bend and break - and when they do, they cannot be repaired and will last in a landfill longer than civilization itself.

Wood is a renewable resource - wooden hangers don't bend, rarely break, can often be repaired - and when they do eventually need to be disposed of, will biodegrade or can be burned, chopped into mulch, etc.

Tagging onto bepsf:
And you can chop little notches in your wooden hangers with your Dremel tool to make sure that even your flimsiest tank won't end up on the floor. Ikea wins again!

Lady J- Or you can buy a set of 24 wooden hangers that already have notches in them at Linens N Things for $14.99.

Yeah they take up more space, but as bepsf said, they're a renewable material.

I haven't seen these in person, but I'm assuming they are superthin? Do they leave those funny notches on the shoulders when you wear a shirt? What I like about my wood hangers, is they way the clothes hang on them&keep their shape, and since they *are* kind of big and clunky, it forces some space between the clothes and lets them breathe. They don't get forced too close together and get wrinkly in the closet.

bepsf:

Because of your comment, I'm going to make a point to go out and buy a set of the petroleum-based black flecked hangers. Just because.

Consider it my minor act of rebellion against the tedious and haranguing attempts of the environmentalist zealots on AT to bend everyone to their will.

P.S. I think I'll also swing by Wal-Mart tomorrow and purchase something plastic that was made in China.

Couldn't agree more with bepsf.

It astonish me that people keep buying stuff like these hangers.

Why not go for quality and longlasting?!

Oh, I have plastic hangers. . . gulp. Thanks for the guilt trip. I would like to redeem myself by saying that I use the plastic hangers to dry my clothing (washed in cold water, of course) and it saves me a lot of time over the traditional clothesline method. Also, I can hang things to dry inside which solves the problem of possibly offending the neighbors. The plastic is not sensitive to moisture like wood, and it is made out of one material so it can be recycled at the end of its life.

bepsf- are you the guy building a huge new house with ample closets and a generous budget for environmentally responsible products and materials? Just wondering ;)

You may want to look at the offerings of www.hangerproject.com. They make beautiful wooden suit, shirt, and pants hangers. For guys like me with broad shoulders it's a revelation. I can order hangers in a 19" width instead of the standard 17". Now my shirts hang properly and don't get weird little "points" on the yoke where they previously drooped off the too-short hangers. And my suits shoulders are supported all the way out!

These flock hangers look good but I am searching the globe for a hanger I bought (should have bought a 100 of them) several years ago. It's white plastic and it's called TheULTIMATEHanger. They're sturdy and have many features like hooks for delicate garments etc. Does anyone know where I can get them?

Hang 12 tops or bottoms using one Hanger. If you suffer from a small closet and need more space and want to stay organized than check out the HankyTankyHanger.

Thanks
