The Yukka bin won top prize on the BBC's Innovation Nation, a TV competition for inventors in the UK. In addition to locking at any desired height, the whole thing breaks down into pieces small enough to fit in a dishwasher.
So far we've only seen it for sale in Japan, but this online retailer ships overseas (provided you can make it through the form).

That thing is an eyesore. Granted, I do keep my trashcan behind closed doors. It is a trashcan, right?

Heh, "yukka." It's kind of too playful looking to begin with for the idea to be massively popular, unless they expand their line. It's just my preference that one not draw attention to certain things in the home, like trash bins and other stuff like cat litter boxes. If they must be out in the open, they should have a subdued presence, there's really no disguise or requisite apology for ordinary household yucky stuff. However, if you have an "I want to live in a cartoon, possibly set in space" theme, this yukka thing would be perfect.

it would be better if it were more neutral in color and looked a little less like an ice cream cone. it is an interesting idea though.
