We haven't often come across birdhouses on balconies. We would imagine they would only attract pigeons where we live. But the fairly sizable houses on this balcony from argoideon.com blog look right at home on this apartment's balcony...

Argoideon.com spotted this balcony on a house in Moscow. We love the pastel palette of the building facade and birdhouse facades.
These are lovely.....but wouldn't too many birds possibly make a mess on a patio area?

After living with awful, awful balcony-pigeon-infestation, I would never encourage birds to come near my balcony.

Actually pigeon breeders are fairly common in Moscow; it is not your ordinary urban pigeons, but highly valued varieties. But usually a "birdhouse" (I wouldn't even call it a birdhouse, it's more like a "birddorm" for a dozen of birds at least) is a separately standing structure, in a courtyard for instance.

Why do we think birds need us to provide housing for them, anyway?
