Decorative Gravel and Glass

6.4.9 decorative 1.jpg Tumbled glass is a gorgeous alternative to gravel that can add an amazing hint (or splash) of color to an outdoor area. Anh-minh and Stephanie have each posted about the material here on Apartment Therapy. Touted for it's recycled origins, and used in xeriscaping and alongside more traditional gardens, we love the look of glass in the yard.

6.4.9 decorative 2.jpg VitroHue is one of many suppliers that offer recycled tumbled glass in an assortment of colors. While this image of a very geometric landscape seen at Paving Expert may be a bit extreme for our taste, but we like the general idea of creating visual interest in areas that may not be welcoming to grass or plants.

What other interesting alternative ground covers and landscaping materials have you seen?

Do you think this material could be used as say... a kitchen backsplash?
