Escape to Angel Island

070609 angel island.jpgThere's no denying the many perks to living in a city (great museums, excellent food, cultural happenings every day - and night - of the week), but the aspects that make it great can just as easily become overwhelming. And while your home can be an oasis from all the dirt, noise, and bustle of the outside world, you can't stay inside all the time. That why we loved our trip to Angel Island this week...

070609 angel island 2.jpgLocated between San Francisco and Tiburon, the island was used to hold POWs during World War II and served as an immigration station from 1910 to 1940. These days there are no cars and very few people - just gorgeous views and beautiful nature. For city dwellers, it can be (quite literally) a much needed breath of fresh air. Best of all you don't need a car to get there, just board the ferry to head out to this pristine California park in the middle of the Bay. Find out more about Angel Island State Park here, and if you have a sec, click here to find out how to prevent this park and many others from being closed due to state budget cuts.

Oh, the Bay Area. One of the most beautiful places on the planet. Lived there once. Will return. With a mattress full of money so I can afford a tiny hobbit house perhaps with a wee bit of a view. Sigh.
