Inspiration: Outdoor Shadow-Boxes
Canadian House & Home

6-17-09-shadow-box.jpg

Outdoor artwork is an intriguing idea to us; our inside artwork is often geared towards bringing the outside in, so what's the point if you're already outside? But if these shadow boxes are easy to open and close, they could be a cute way to instantly display shells, rocks and glass from the beach, for example.

Full disclosure: we're not hot on the particular colors and artwork pictured here, but we do like how the frames look distinctly outdoor and hardy, and not like a regular frame hung in the wrong place. The idea has potential, anyway.

I would say forget glass doors on shadow boxes altogether, they would just fill up with spiderwebs and bugs. But keep them open as architectural looking shelves and put some potted plants on the ledges.
