I think the best idea I've seen so far about outdoor lighting was the post about having candles in jars - and then having a lot of jars. Simple, reusable, and pretty much indestructible.

The key is whenever using something chintzy is to use lots of them and they instantly look chic. 10 amber Moroccan candle lights? OK... 100 amber Moroccan candle lights? Cool!
