Rocking Chairs Project

01_09.18.09_RockingChair.jpgWe have been looking for a vintage rocking chair for awhile. There is something incredibly relaxing about rocking chairs. We imagine ourselves sitting in a rocking chair on a balcony or a porch on a beautiful day, just soaking up the sun. Gabrielle Blair from DesignMom.com has set out on a mission to find seven of them for each one of her family members.

She has found five of them so far and she repainted each one of them. They were all Craigslist finds at very affordable prices. We love the colors that she chose. She is using high-quality exterior paint as she will be using them outside. We can't wait to see the rocking project completed. The last two chairs that she still has to find, will be painted turquoise and magenta.

Learn more about the project on the Design Mom blog.

i don't know why i didn't think of this before... I have a wonderful old rocking chair sitting unused in our basement. i am bringing out onto the porch asap!!! we used it when our kids were babies, but since they've grown it hasn't had a good spot. the porch is the perfect place.

Wow. I love how these look as a group. Now I'm picturing a rainbow of vintage chairs around a simple white dining/kitchen table.

Great idea, and fun colors, but one does wonder if 49 chairs won't make for an awfully crowded porch...

Relative got bentwood rocker as a design statement back in 70s...passed on to me...had a baby...rocked the baby...somewhere along the way husband placed a board under the weakening cane seat...bored of the rocker...stored away...brought the rocker out for the porch, wonderful idea...July came, along with mold...cleaned off mold...back again...autumn came...placed chair at curbside...quickly snatched up.

When I was pregnant, my mother sanded off many layers of paint and then refinished a rocking chair that's been in our family for well over a hundred years. I rocked my baby in the same rocking chair that my great--great-grandmother had rocked her babies in.

How nice those rockers would look, lined up on a long front porch! That's a great idea...I love it.
