Velocity Art & Design

2004_9_15_velo1.jpgThe best of the West. Velocity is a mid-century modern haven. With original designs from Eames, Panton and Breuer and top picks from the murderers row of current fun design: Jonathan Adler, Blu Dot, Arad, Dwell, Mibo, etc., Velocity has a big selection with no crap. There is a good, funky eye behind this shop.mibo_shade_hornseylarge.jpg

Unlike similar ventures, they are not afraid to sell a really broad range, including beds, dressers, lighting, artwork, accessories, pillows, rugs, and paper products.

They are like DWR, the MoMA store and Kate's Paperie all thrown together.

Our favorites are the Mibo lamps and shades, their Area Bedding (it's got more groove than Dwell), and the Modernica Case Study Bed ($1,500).

They are definitely on the must-window-shop tour if this is your style.

Zach says: "I've done mail-order with Velocity, and they've been very helpful and hands-on -- a nice small-company feel, with a well-chosen catalogue. Highly recommended. "

rdl says: "Velocity is great - highly recommend them. Great, helpful staff. They also have some interesting and relatively affordable artwork."

That Mibo shade is the centerpiece of my living room. Here it is in disarray.
