Dry Erase Paint by Rust-Oleum

rustoleum_dryerase.gifFirst there was chalkboard paint. And magnetic paint. Now, the folks at Rust-Oleum have introduced a Dry Erase paint. We think this would be great in a child's bedroom, playroom or home office.

It's described as "a smooth, hard finish that creates a unique white writeable-erasable surface. Once dry, simply use any dry erase markers to draw or write messages and then erase! Application is easy and it has minimal odor making it safe to use indoors."

The paint can be used on a variety of surfaces — including drywall, masonite, wood, cement and metal. There are two parts that just need to be mixed together before you get to work on the walls. The recommended drying time is two days.

We're not sure how far one kit, which costs about $20, will go. Has anyone out there tried this product?

I have not tried the product, but I have used a variety of dry erase boards over the years and have found that there is always, eventually, ghost letters left on the board. Meaning, no matter what you use to clean it, after a short period of time you will not have a 'white' board any more.

Can you use it over magnetic paint? We just did the backsplash with black chalkboard over magentic paint and we love it!

The paint may be low odor, but the last thing you would need are children getting high off of dry erase markers :)

I just found this post after searching to see if anyone else had a similarly bad experience with this stuff. It is low odor, I'll give you that. However after following the directions to the *T* I came up with something more "scrub vigorously with a wet cloth" erase than dry erase. (And even after cleaning with a wet cloth there were noticeable stains leftover.)

The most disappointing thing is that the directions state you have to use this product within two hours of mixing the 2 separate components. So there is no going back to reapply after it has fully cured (2 days later).

Luckily, there is a money-back, satisfaction guarantee, which I will test tomorrow. *Crosses fingers*
