With January Jumpstart going on around here, paint is on our minds. Since the environment and our own health is always on our minds, we're always happy to find new sources for less-toxic or non-toxic paint, because who wants anymore of those nasty VOCs hanging around than is necessary? Mythic Paints is a new paint line that isn't just low-VOC, it's VOC free.

Anyone know where to get this paint in the S.F. area?
Thanks!

I'm answering my own post here, but I found a link claiming that Scout Hardware in Temescal, Oakland, CA sells Mythic Paints. Im going to check it out.

I went through a continuing ed seminar at work and found out some interesting things. Just beware, there are paints that say they are low or no-VOC, but because of the complicated way VOC levels are measured and defined (I don't know how exactly, but it has to do with measuring VOC levels in an outdoor enviromnent over a certain period of time), it can be misleading. Paints have VOC's, period. It's how they are released into the atmosphere. A low or no-VOC label DOES NOT mean it's free of VOC's and if used in an interior, can still release high levels of VOC's and noxious fumes, especially a small apartment like mine.
An easy way to know for sure is to look for the GreenGuard certified label. Green Seal is great, but that's a standard made for exterior products and doesn't really apply. GreenGuard is a standard set specifically for interior products:

Just because something is not GreenGuard certified doesn't mean it won't meet the standards, but it's a good resource.
