I dont mind brick walls. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont...but that first picture of the bedroom? how cold-looking. That room does NOT make me want to have sex. Or sleep.

I don't have exposed brick in my home, but I've seen whitewashed or painted white brick walls that I've really liked. I also saw a tv show where a couple sandblasted a white painted wall in re-doing a playroom... I thought it looked much brighter/bigger before. Whitewashing would have been a better option! :)

I had the opposite reaction, abc123. I think that room is very sexy.

I'd kill for a wall like the one in that top photo. OK, maybe I wouldn't kill... but really... that's beautiful.

White-washed or no, I like brick walls. As for the first bedroom, I like it.

I don't care for raw brick walls, but I love whitened brick walls (more than merely whitewashed) -- like how they originally did it at BDDW or the way they tend to paint brick walls white in parts of Europe (Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Italy...).

Me, I find it *very* sexy.

I just moved out of a place that had white brick walls. I really liked it. The walls had a lot of texture, but the whiteness smoothed the effect. Late afternoon light brought out stunning tiny shadows in the wall's many imperfections.

wait, let me clarify...the brick wall is fine...but the room in its entirety (the bed etc)is not sexy to me.

I think the bed is too low for that very high ceiling. Maybe raise the bed and add a bit of art to the brick wall, so it looks less like a monk's cell?

Otherwise, I like the look of painted (or white-washed) brick. I once painted my fireplace bricks ivory -- they had been painted brown by a former tenant. It was a big improvement.

Plus, when the brick is painted it is easier to clean.

I think painting nice brick is a tragedy. White walls obsessives should go find drywall and leave delicious brick & wood in its natural state.

I love brick walls - preferably unpainted, but this is nice too.

I don't get the "easier to clean if it's painted" thing - You can't get in all the nooks and crannies w/ a sponge or towel whether it's painted or not. Just take the brush attachment from the vacuum and dust the wall that way if you must - it works just as well either way.

Love that first bedroom. The low bed is great. I hate the high bed with 10 pillow look.

Since I know that, the cavernous height of the ceilings does not register for me (usually, in my book, the higher the better -- love high ceilings).

I am with chidog though -- hate high beds with lots of pillows -- too fussy and uptight to be sexy. Varied textures -- the whitewashed brick, the raw wood, the rug -- help make it sexy.

What I want to know though -- and maybe AT can get the answer? -- is why BDDW changed the treatment of their brick wall, from this:

Personally, I prefer the way they had it originally -- was it merely an aesthetic change, or was the method outlined in the apartmentherapy post flawed (i.e., did it spall or flake off??)??
