My Design's Dreamy!: Psymonetta's Persian Polka (Dot) Perch

2006_07_25_merv2.jpg

Design: Polka (Dot) Perch
Price: around $15 for fabric, wood and hardware

Name: Psymonetta
Location: Portland, OR
Pet's Name: Mervin "Merv" Q. Boschmunster
Size & Type: 12lb Persian cat of the very wooly variety

Pitch: "My cat, Merv, loves to lounge near windows. But, since he's a Persian, those ready-made wooly window perches mat his wooly fur. Plus, they're ugly. Here's our homebrew version of the kitty perch constructed from a frame of 2x2s, upholstered with baby-blanket batting and a heavy cotton twill. We used a wood frame instead of a flat platform so the perch would have the hammock like slump that cats prefer. We attached the perch to the wall with shelf brackets. The bonus is that the cotton twill is a lot easier to clean than carpet or fleece." [more after jump]

Pet design you covet most or would buy for your pet if you had all the money in the world: "Merv really adores cardboard. So, I'd love to be able to get him a cat cacoon...and his own bathtub, so he'll stop thinking ours is just a giant litterbox."

Hi Lisa,

The blue color is Behr flat paint in "Gulf Winds". We inherited the straw color, and from my detective work, I think it's Devine color in Moss or Filbert (the can doesn't have the color name on it), with a color wash of Ralph Lauren in Tourmaline. I think most of the texture is from a layer of grass cloth that was put up when the house was built in 1952. It's been painted over many times though.

The chair is the Orbit chair from Pier One.

I love psymonetta's color schemes... I couldn't live with that much blue myself, but it would be so great to be invited over for coffee on a regular basis in order to be among the blueness.

Hi wende...

We actually just moved and the new place is a sort of neutral straw green gray color.I find myself missing the robin's egg, but it wouldn't work in our new place. In the old place, the light was very gray and the blue didn't seem as saturate as it tends to look in pictures. Our new place has really warm south and west exposures, so the blue would be too much there. I have to figure out how to accesorise with the straw, though. It's been awhile since I've had a neutral wall color. I'm a little lost.

We may use the robin's egg color on the ceiling of our bedroom, then paint the walls a cocoa color. And, my writing room/studio/guest room is going to be a dark french blue, so I can get my blue fix. And, I'll definitely have a coffee corner in there.

I love the blue, do you remember who made it and the name of the color?

Oh, and I just checked out your link. I Really love the straw color that you have, what a great neutral. Does it have a texture, it looks like venetian plaster? If you don't mind, what color is that one?

The blue accessories that you have in there look perfect, especially that blue chair. Is that the one from Pier 1? I would keep doing what you are already doing, your place looks great.
