The Original Pet Postings "Dog In Yard" Signs

7-30-dogsign1.jpg7-30-dogsign2.jpg
We've never been fond of "Beware Of Dog" signs - they've always seemed overly alarmist to us. So we were happy to see these more gentle "Dog In Yard" signs - the wording clearly states the facts without making your dog (or you) seem overly aggressive.

While we wish there were some more lettering choices (something a touch more modern perhaps?) we're not complaining too much because this is definitely one of the best dog signs we've ever seen. On top of that, we're pretty intrigued by the company's "Good Karma Policy," which has you pay for your sign only after you receive it.

The signs are available for $16.95 each from The Original Pet Postings.

Although certainly not in the gentle vein, these Danger Dog signs from Nepal are really cool and have a great outsider art vibe. Best of all you can contact the woman who imports them and have a custom painting made using your dog's likeness: http://nepaldog.com/NEPAL_DOG/DangerDog2.html

i like my little enameled sign from BHV (Parisian hardware mecca) that reads Attenion Chien Bizzare... he's not dangerous... just weird.

Ahhh, Dahlia, I need that sign! One of my dogs in particular is very weird and that would suit him perfectly!

I like the gentler vein. We live in the country and dogs are pretty common here, so they're not considered the menace suburban and urban folks sometimes think of them.

These signs are more aesthetically pleasing but legally they don't cut the grade.

"Beware of dog", "danger" etc are deliberately alarmist to ensure that anyone entering the property has been reasonably warned of the dangers that dogs represent.

Any one bitten by a dog on a property using one of these new signs is leaving themselves open to litigation.

What if the sign says "Dogs in Yard, Announce Your Intentions"? Would save litigation?

I have also head that posting a "Danger... or Warning, Attack Dog, etc" type of sign is a legal nightmare if someone were to get bit- even if breaking in- it somehow implies that you are aware that your dog is a potential liability. We have "Dog on Premise" signs to announce the presence of our American Bulldog.

I had heard the same thing as MelissaLeigh. It is like admitting your dog is so dangerous, it needs to be advertised.

On another note, I've seen signs for the fire department alerting them to animals. That is rather important.

Thanks to the person who mentioned NepalDog.com These signs can be personalized to say Zen Dog, Enlightened Dog, Happy Dog or (my favorite) Be Aware of Dog. And, besides being cool, they help the Nepalese artists' dwindling livelihood. The last option should take care of liability and still frighten off the bad guys.

Now that I live in the country, I've seen this sign several times:
Old dog
Young dog
Several stupid dogs!
(I might be missing part of it)

Oh geez! Getting a beware of dog sign for your dog doesn't mean anything! I have a yorkie and he has one for the yard and what could he possibly do with his 5 pund rump. He never bit anyone, he's jolly. I have seen beware of dog signs since I was a baby. That's total bull!
