A mirror used in the right place can really pull a room together. We love this Architectural Wooden Mirror from Flutter - what a statement it would make in an entry or above a fireplace; we could even see it working above the sink in the right bathroom.

i just bought a mirror exactly like that for $90 in a weathered green finish. now i REALLY like it. of course, i didn't have to have it shipped to me, either.

I'd probably paint it, which brings to mind something that's really odd--the fad for "distressed" furniture. When I see something that looks like it needs painting, well, it just looks like it needs painting. Dents in an old piece is one thing--I will just color it in with a marker made for that purpose. But rusty metal? Paint that has faded and cracked and fallen off? It's going to get "distressed" eventually--I want it to look nice when I get it!

kuroneko, I totally disagree! I'll take a crusty metal table or distressed piece of wood any day over something shiny and new...texture is such an important layer of design.
also, I own this mirror! actually shows up in my AT house tour from last year: http://gallery.apartmenttherapy.com/photo/122007doug/diningroom

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh! I was prepared to sink into bliss at Flutter's website, but it doesn't seem to be working: when I click on a category, I just get a page that says "0 of 1 pages"

Thanks for the hint, Aulaire. I agree with the concept of Wabi-Sabi, although I tend to believe that most people who go for "distressed" stuff only do so because it's trendy, and that is what I really dislike--buying something beat up ONLY because it's fashionable.
