If we find ourselves drawn to the design of a clock - so much so that we want to have it in our home - odds are it is a little analog number (numbers, actually) of some sort.

Take for instance this flip clock we recently picked up at Perch. It's simple, stylish, and practical... and pretty old school. We've seen some cool digital versions out there, but when it comes to taking one home, they never even make it into the running. Perhaps it has something to do with the typically glowing red display (not too soothing), or maybe we're just stuck in the past. We want to know what you have on your bedside table, and if you have a strong defense for either type.
I keep a battery-powered digital clock stashed in the nightstand drawer - all I need is to hear the thing go off when I need to wake up, and since it's in the drawer, it's more difficult to hit the snooze button than it is to just get out of bed.

I have an oversized analog pocket watch style clock on my bedside table. I found in the past with a digital display that if I woke up in the middle of the night and saw how little time left I had before the alarm went off, I wouldn't be able to fall back to sleep.

analog. less imperative, the font is beautiful, resides as gentler artwork when not ordering me to get up. reminds me of the days before i sat at a computer for 8 hours at a stretch. it's windup.

Analog, definitely.

I found a beautiful old clock that uses rotating cylinders to turn the numbers. Unfortunately the motor or the gears or something inside is very loud.
Does anyone have any experience with getting cool old clocks "silenced" ? I'd love for my clock to be functional, but I can't take the ever-present wrrrrrrrg of the cylinders.

I have a digital alarm clock that is only used as my fail-safe alarm (it sits across the room and only goes off if I've failed to get up by my cellphone alarm). It's small, round and red and matches my TV & CD/radio otherwise I would've gotten an analog one (all the other clocks in my house are analog).
However, I do admit ... a digital one is easier for me to understand when I wake up all confused and groggy in the middle of the night wondering how much time left I have to sleep ...

I wish there was an analog clock with a radio alarm, it's the only thing keeping me attached to my digital one...

I purchased the little "retro quartz alarm clock" from Target for the bathroom counter a few months and I absolutely love it.
Analogs seem friendlier.
In the bedroom we have boring digitals. The light is so bright from the numbers i usually throw my knitting on top of it. And why must cd player alarm clocks (a gift) be so big? I've been looking to replace it, even with a regular ol' alarm clock, but haven't found one yet... Any suggestions???

I'm in the same camp as those who have trouble sleeping/falling back asleep under the threatening, bright digital numbers. I had to cover mine up, too. Now I have a little unlit digital my boss gave me for Christmas one year--it's dark, but it projects the numbers on the ceiling when you push a button. It also tells the temperature. Not something I'd buy on my own, but a neat gizmo in its own right.

Both - we have a digital projection clock in the bedroom - puts some nice big digits up on the wall in the dark for me since I don't have my contacts in when I sleep. Can't see it during the daytime but it has a small lcd on it as well - but I've got my watch on all day any way... which is sometimes a digital ironman sleek and sometimes an analog black skagen titanium. Analogs in the house include a repro kitkat klock in the kitchen and a vintage elgin starburst that I modded to take a battery in the living room.

I can't sleep with a bright digital light in my bedroom. Like others, knowing what time it is - and how soon I have to get up - disrupts my sleep. Now I don't even remember waking up in the middle of the night.
So: no clock at all in the bedroom. I use my cell phone as my alarm clock.

I am in the same boat as Jezebella. Plus, one less item to clutter my nightstand

I have a digital in my bedroom, analog everywhere else. For those worried about the brightness of their alarm clock, can't you just turn it around so it faces away from you? Mine has a "dimmer switch" so I use that when the brightness is just too much.
