Coral Magnifier and Letter Opener Set

3-21-08-coral.jpg

We spotted this striking desk set from See Jane Work, and were instantly charmed. This is the kind of desk accessory we'd leave out after when everything else is neatly zipped away.

Now all we need is a clear-topped desk with a shelf underneath to strew beach sand and shells. Because that is some impressive styling in the first photo, against the red. Yum.

$35 at See Jane Work.

What's the point in making a coral handle if you are going to dip it in red epoxy paint?

I imagine the actual handle isn't really coral. But even so... try googling red coral and take a look.

that reminds me too much of the devil or dripping blood. like the idea - i've got coral knobs from anthropologie - but not this particular design

it's not very eco-conscious to use coral for new products

In summary - the devil's bloody chicken feet. And I suspect not that well made.

Completely ridiculous, worthless product that Apartment Therapy should not be pushing. How often do any of us need a magnifying glass or a letter opener, really? http://www.vladcole.net/?p=26

Vladmir, are you off of your medication? You seem to have a problem with everything on this site. They arent nice looking, but I dont think a letter opener or a magnifying glass will ever be considered "ridiculous" or "worthless".

Tell me, Volvoguy, where the utility is in these pieces. How do they solve a problem? Why should a portion of my home, my precious space, be dedicated to the storage of these items? I'm encouraging conscientous consumerism. This post encourages the opposite when it pushes net-negative utility items like this.

PS: I don't hate everything on the site. Check out: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/tools-electrical-helpers/franzus-travel-smart-ladderkart-046022

I do think that Apartment Therapy does push a lot of junk and that its many writers have lost sight of the "Therapy" mission. Apartment dwelling requires careful curation of objects or the result is pure clutter.

/sheepish
It'd help if I could spell the thing I'm trying to encourage. Conscientious. Conscientious. Conscientious.

Totally aside from whether those suck or not, does it drive anyone else nuts when the materials in products aren't listed? What are those? Plastic? Painted metal or wood? I don't feel like I can tell from an online photo. Annoying, especially when it's a fabric item. There's a big difference polyester and linen, and I'd like to know which it is without having to call the company or whatever.

That's one thing that I did find confusing about these items. I assumed they were fake coral but it seems most people think it's real, so who knows. Anyways... ever since someone mentioned chicken feet it's all I can see when I look at them.
