Macrame Owls by Tamara Maynes

Fun, fun, fun. Perfect for anyone who remembers their mom or grandma taking up the macrame craze the last time around, these owls straddle the line between...

...vintage funkiness and eclectic modern decor really well. We think they'd be wonderful in an outside space or just about any room that could use a little dose of nostalgic whimsy.

By Tamara, about her work: In the 1970's when I was most young and shapeable my mother owned a craft shop called Country Road Craft Supplies named after her musical love of the time, Mr John Denver. The one thing I remember most is the macrame bits. Metal rings in every size, drawer upon drawer of wooden beads and colourful skeins of furry, jute like rope all waiting to be carefully knotted into pot plant hangers, lampshades and king of them all...the macrame owl. Now some thirty years and many, many crafts later I have taken it upon myself to redesign the owl in all it's glory for those who missed out the first time around and those who secretly wish they had never left.

Love it!

Yep, my mom made a huge macrame hanging for the living room. Like the redesign!

They are beautifully done, but I just can't. It's still too fresh. All I can think when I see these things is that they will be covered with dust and grease in no time. That's how the 70's went out, covered in dust and grease. Maybe that's why the 80's was all shiny and laquered, lol. Wow...deep.

Looks like I'm the minority here because I really like these...they have a more modern design than the ones I remember from the 70s and the colors are great.

I am neutral on the subject of macrame.

Though I wonder if anyone else thinks these 'owls' are actually Cthulhu-ish?

They do look pretty eldritch. The blank eyes are creeping me out a bit. The green one does look Cthulhu-ish, but not in the cute amigurumi way.
