We had to look up
nixie tubes on Wikipedia to fully understand this clock. When we did, what we took away was that the device is essentially a glowing gas tube shaped like a numeral, developed in the fifties. This series of clocks using the tubes fully capitalizes on the mid-century industrial charm.
One of our friends thinks it looks like it's counting down to armageddon, but we're not swayed. It's cool.

we had a multimeter with nixie tube numbers in lab for a while. it was really quite lovely for a piece of equipment. they're really fun in person - sort of flickery.

Reminds me of the ticker on the atom bomb that stopped at "007" at the end of Goldfinger.

The first clock pictured is $2400! I get that as a designer, you can set your price for what ever you think you're product is worth but, the really insulting part is that it would cost me $375 to have them ship it from NY to Los Angeles. Am I paying for a "One of a kind" shipping experience? I could buy a round trip plane ticket for less and pick it up myself.
