AT:SF, I live in a contemporary, large (>1000 sq ft) apartment. I have a gas fireplace with slate tiles around the outside of it. I'm looking for a fireplace mantle that does two things: 1) ties in the color of the reddish/brown hardwood floors and 2) is a little more contemporary (not in a Victorian home). Where is a good place to shop for a mantle like this?
Thanks! Ray

There are tons of online mantle shops that will fabricate a mantle for you. Most of them have contemporary styles to chose from.

A handyman could easily make one for you that would fit your angled fireplace perfectly.
It wouldn't cost too much to create out of painted MDF or a bit more for a stained veneer.

If you do decide to go a little bit more classic or vintage-there are reclaimed fireplaces at Ohmega Salvage in Berkeley or Urban Ore on the Berekeley/Oakland border. But most of theirs come from Victorians or Craftsmans.

Hi Ray,
...."a little more Contemporary"....ya wont find.
Seriously.
That's why I started (after being asked) to make them.
Customers looking for a Modern-of-The-Moment solution to surround a fireplace- something other than the 12" by12" stone tiles that so many "developer/Designers" slap around the Heatilator fireplace boxes. (pictured above).
So many Heatilator and other fireplaces are of varying dimensions- so that it's hard to find a manufactured -one size fits all solution.
Kinda like finding a Manufactured "Interior Stair Railing".
Take a look at some of the Custom Steel Fireplace surrounds that I've created, for fireplaces very much like yours.

IKEA had a real nice looking BIG wall clock, yesterday in paramus, for reasonable price - that I said "where can I put that".

I think there are tons of online mantle shops that you can choose. But why not build one by yourself? I think that is a better choice. You can work out your own dimensions, and you can also make your own style that is fit your family. No instruction? Take it easy, I think this book can give you a lot of help: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=85758&ru=279

What about using a couple of Pottery Barn Holman shelves? They are very deep (almost a foot), clean lined and contemporary in shape, and could serve all of the same functions as a more elaborate mantle.
