Ty Pennington's Picture Frames

GOT PHOTOS IN NEED OF FRAMES?! (remove megaphone from face)

Celebrity designer lines are all the rage these days and many of them actually offer pretty good value. A recent sprint through a Sears in Michigan brought us face to face with Ty Pennington Style, one of the mega-brand's attempts to stay in the playing field alongside big box upstart Target (think Isaac Mizrahi Home).

One of the offerings we particularly liked was this line of simple, playful plywood and glass plywood picture frames. It was the hip combo of exposed plywood and retro colors that drew our attention, but when we picked them up we discovered that these frames can be wall- or table-mounted -- a surprisingly rare feature in the world of small ready-made frames. We also found them to be suspiciously similar to a more expensive line carried by the deYoung gift shop.

Pennington's frames come in three sizes, 2" x 3", 4" x 6" and 5" x 7," go for $14.99 to $17.99, and are available through Sears online .

This is one of the most obvious cases of "not hot" I've ever seen. An 8 year old could design better looking frames. These are crap.

I thi9nk ATSF needs some more sophisticated product spotters. These seriously suck.
