Sometimes the simplest changes are the most dramatic. We saw this in the window of a flower shop on a recent trip, and were surprised we'd never seen anything like it before. After all, it's just a flower in a vase, right? But by playing with the scale of vessel to flower, the look is changed dramatically.

Awesome! And that way, my cats can't get it.

Montreal....St-Laurent Boulevard, just above Prince Arthur. I love that flower shop! They always seem to have new and brilliant ways of displaying cut flowers or foliage.

Reminds me of Beauty and the Beast.
I like it.

My boyfriend got me one of those with an enormous spray of white orchids once... very pretty, safe from cats, and I got to keep the giant vase. BUT, I have an awful time cleaning it because it won't fit in the sink and it's longer than my arm-- it has to go in the tub with a long-handled brush, and it's actually taller than the tub faucet! Inconvenient but fun.

I have a huge "vase" I bought last year after christmas. It's really just a huge jar with an ugly top. It looks very nice with flowers set in it like that photo. Added bonus is the kids can't touch the flowers and pull the petals off and the cats can't eat the flowers or bat them around the house...

i've done this before with a vase exactly like that one, and two sprigs of orchids... it looked really pretty, and lasted forever.

These oversized vases have been popular over here in the Netherlands for a couple of years now. The trend seems to be dying out over here, at least, I haven't seen that many around like I did last summer. I like 'em!

Seen it a lot in LA, especially at open houses of modern homes. Usually two big green orchid stems submerged in water, inside a clear large cylinder. Usually with no river rocks actually.
