We live so close to Alamo Square Park that it's easy for us to take the San Francisco landmark for granted. But passing by the park yesterday, we noticed the newly planted display of marigolds that now graces the side of the park facing the row of Painted Ladies.
We were waiting our turn amongst flocks of tourists to take a few photos of the marigold fountain, when we remembered the secret shoe garden outside the gardener's shed...
Located within feet from the most populated area of the park, it's somewhat hidden in the shade and remains an uncrowded little gem to enjoy. What a charming and unusual garden!

Lily's recent discovery of the hidden garden of the Conservatory of Flowers, the day was a good reminder that even the most touristy sites in San Francisco have hidden nooks for all to enjoy, and are worth revisiting.

Thanks for reminding me how much I used to love marigolds when I was a wee little boy. I had an empty patch of garden where I planted some seeds that I'd won at a party and they took off like weeds - They were so pretty...
